"There is great value to be found in this cracking entry-level wine estate shiraz from De Iuliis. It is a beautifully made, expertly blended wine with good energy, clarity and flow. High-toned cherry and raspberry notes invite one into the flavoursome, long, medium-weight palate. Accents of spice that weave their way through the palate only add to the charm. It's fabulous for the price and simply delicious."

The De Iuliis Shiraz from the Hunter Valley is a classic expression of the region’s hallmark red, showing elegance, savoury complexity and a sense of place. Winemaker Mike De Iuliis has built a reputation as one of the Hunter’s most consistent and thoughtful producers, crafting wines that highlight balance over brute power. Sourced from the estate’s own vineyards around Pokolbin, the Shiraz reflects the Hunter’s warm days, cooling evening breezes and ancient volcanic soils, producing a style that is medium-bodied, aromatic and built to age.
In the glass, it is bright crimson with ruby edges. The bouquet is lifted and complex, showing red cherry, blackberry and mulberry interwoven with violets, pepper, clove and subtle earthy tones. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with juicy red fruits framed by fine tannins and lively acidity. Savoury layers of spice, liquorice and leather give depth, while the finish is long, silky and balanced, a hallmark of Hunter Valley Shiraz’s restrained style.
Food pairings are easy and versatile: slow-roast lamb shoulder, beef fillet with pepper sauce, duck breast with cherry glaze, or earthy vegetarian dishes such as mushroom risotto. It is also excellent with a cheese board featuring aged cheddar or washed-rind cheeses. With 10 to 15 years of cellaring potential, the wine develops secondary notes of tobacco, truffle and dried herbs, rewarding those with patience.
