Otto Dal Zotto grew up in Valdobbiadene in northern Italy before settling in the King Valley in the 1980s. Like many families in the region, the Dal Zottos farmed tobacco before switching to Italian grape varieties, and Sangiovese has been part of the picture from the beginning.
Red cherry, sage and a hint of earthy spice on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with crunchy tannins, bright acidity and a dry, savoury finish that makes it very easy to drink with food. Twelve months in barrel adds just enough structure without getting in the way of the fruit. Honest, characterful and good value.
Pizza, pasta with a simple tomato sauce, grilled pork with herbs or a plate of salumi. Serve with a slight chill on a warm evening.
