Shiraz sourced from the red dirt over limestone of the Gomersal subregion; matured for 14 months in seasoned French oak. Fresh, lifted blackberry, black cherry and damson plums with hints of dark chocolate, licorice, crushed stone, gentle vanillin oak, tea cake, panforte, coal dust and dried meats. Full bodied, with a chocolatey tannin pull, fine acidity and an impressive draw of fruit. At this pricepoint, this is a no-brainer. Drink to 2038.

Kym Teusner was raised on a sheep and cereal farm on the banks of the Murray River. While studying business in Adelaide, he was fascinated by a Barossa Valley Cabernet that led to all-consuming obsession with wine and travels to wine regions around the globe. Coming home, his studies shifted formally to oenology and landed him roles at Torbreck and Rolf Binder, with a dedicated small cellar at the latter becoming the home for his first wines. 2008 saw the first full-time vintage for his label, culminating in the construction of a bespoke winery in Nuriootpa.
Teusner Wines is a negociant producer working with grape growing families across the Barossa. Many of these families have lived in the Barossa since the early days of settlement and possess in-depth, multi-generational knowledge about growing conditions, unique terroir variations and the distinct intricacies of local sites. Kym’s mutually respectful relationship with growers and his gentle winemaking approach are at the core of all Teusner wines.
The Bilmore Shiraz is sourced from a Gomersal vineyard and named in honour of one of Teusner’s favourite growers: Roger Bilmore is the alter ego of a grape grower who dislikes publicity: Roger only shows his face at nighttime if you’re lucky enough to share a few glasses of red wine with him!
2022 was a long growing season of moderate temperatures across the Barossa, providing fruit for fresh wines that display ripe fruit flavours and good structure. The wine making here was deliberately low-key to allow the fruit to shine.
Lifted black fruit aromas introduce the wine, with chocolate and licorice soon competing for attention. Full-bodied, with long, rich black fruit and spice flavours and ripe velvety tannins.
A wine for low-fuss late dinners with half the preparation done in advance: beef birria tacos, Levantine spiced lamb flatbreads or roasted pumpkin with black garlic butter and crispy sage.
