Set just above the village, Narvaux often delivers a more structured, mineral driven take on Meursault, and in 2018 that extra depth comes with a generous, sun ripened edge. Olivier Leflaive brings a steady, precise hand here, sourcing from this higher slope to capture both richness and that firmer backbone that Narvaux is known for.
Aromatics are open and layered, ripe peach and nectarine alongside lemon curd and citrus peel. There is a clear Meursault signature, toasted almond, hazelnut and a touch of butter, with a subtle stony note that keeps everything grounded.
On the palate it has real presence, medium to full bodied with a broad, textured feel that reflects the warmth of the vintage. Stone fruit richness flows through the mid palate, but it is held together by a line of acidity and a gentle mineral grip that stops it from becoming heavy. Oak is well judged, adding spice and depth without overt influence, and the finish carries a long mix of citrus, nuts and savoury notes.
Olivier Leflaive’s approach focuses on balance and consistency, careful élevage and thoughtful blending allowing the vineyard character to come through while maintaining polish and accessibility.
This is a natural with fuller flavoured dishes. Roast chicken, pork belly or veal all sit comfortably here, and it also works beautifully with richer vegetarian plates like mushroom risotto, truffle pasta or roasted root vegetables with herbs and butter.
Drinking beautifully now, it will continue to evolve over the next eight to twelve years, developing deeper honeyed, nutty complexity while holding its structure.
