From some of the oldest Chenin Blanc plantings in Margaret River, Peel Estate Wood Matured Chenin Blanc reflects the winery’s long standing dedication to traditional varieties and thoughtful maturation. Established in the early 1970s by the founding McCall family, Peel Estate has quietly built a reputation for wines that emphasise structure, longevity and regional authenticity. Barrel fermentation and ageing add layers of texture and savoury depth to Chenin’s natural brightness, creating a style that feels both distinctive and compelling.
A pale golden hue with soft green reflections shimmers in the glass. Aromas unfold with baked apple, quince and lemon peel layered with honeycomb, toasted almond and a subtle lanolin note. There is a comforting richness to the bouquet balanced by freshness and quiet complexity.
The palate is medium bodied and finely textured, delivering orchard fruit and citrus flavours framed by lively acidity and gentle oak influence. Notes of spice, brioche and mineral detail build through the mid palate, leading to a long, rounded finish that feels both generous and composed. While already beautifully expressive, this Chenin Blanc will reward cellaring over eight to twelve years, developing beeswax richness, nutty complexity and savoury nuance.
Salt cod brandade spread onto warm sourdough, saffron seafood stew shared from a large pot, or roast pork with fennel crackling enjoyed as evening cools. A record like Dire Straits Love Over Gold or something expansive from Fleetwood Mac drifting through the room, the wine bringing a warm Margaret River glow to the night.
