A pretty, pale lemon color. The bouquet is an elegant rendition of Burgundian chardonnay. Very stylish, not too rich by any means but the fruit is ripe, with a good natural acid balance and a long and pretty finish. Drink from 2025-2027. Tasted Oct 2023.

Drawn from parcels surrounding the château itself, this Bourgogne Blanc is a proper introduction to the Château de Meursault style, combining generosity with a clear line of freshness. With roots dating back to the 11th century and now under the ownership of the Halley family, the estate has sharpened its focus in recent years, bringing more precision and detail to wines across the range.

The 2022 vintage is open and inviting. Aromatics lead with pear, white peach and lemon zest, with a touch of citrus peel adding lift. There is a gentle savoury layer underneath, almond, hazelnut and a hint of spice, alongside a faint stony edge that gives the wine definition.

On the palate it sits in the medium bodied range with a smooth, lightly rounded texture, but there is a clean line of acidity running through it. Stone fruit and citrus carry the core, with well judged oak adding shape and a touch of warmth rather than weight. The finish is fresh and mineral, with a lightly savoury, nutty edge that lingers.

Winemaking is handled with care, gentle pressing, controlled fermentation and thoughtful élevage, allowing the fruit and site to come through clearly while building texture.

This is a versatile match at the table. Think grilled prawns with garlic and lemon, a simple roast fish with herbs, or spaghetti vongole. It also works beautifully with dishes like crab risotto, a savoury leek tart, or crispy potatoes with rosemary and aioli, where the wine’s freshness and texture keep everything in balance.

Drinking beautifully now for its charm and accessibility, it will continue to hold over the next five to seven years, picking up a little more complexity while maintaining its balance.
