This wine has a sumptuous nose, packed with rich stone- fruit aromas and a hint of honey. It’s sleek and textured, fresh and silky, not excessively sweet, and has a welcome elegance rather than power. It seemed a touch lean a few years ago, but has put on a bit of weight and opulence. This is powerful and racy with lots of class. Full body, very sweet with lots of spicy botrytis character. Intense. Drink or hold.

The 2005 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a wine that has gradually crept up in quality in recent years. As before, the bouquet is replete with lovely apricot and fig scents, subtle traces of buttered toast and almond developing with aeration and sporting fine delineation. The palate is mid-weight for this property, armed with impressive tension and a citrus-fresh, quite vivacious finish. I love the aftertaste of lemon curd and praline. Not the best Lafaurie-Peyraguey, but it does the job with minimum fuss. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at home.
