Dense, seamless red with powerful and complex berry flavours interwoven in moccha/vanilla oak. Extremely rich and warming red with a touch of black pepper and the beginning of bottle development adding extra interest. Great cellaring potential. A truly classic Aussie red 23 DEC 2008

The 2005 vintage offered a long, dry and cooler than average growing season, but one where the grapes matured earlier than expected with above average ripeness. The grapes come from a specific small vineyard, and the wine was matured for 24 months in a combination of French and American oak barriques, less than half of which were new. There's a gloriously bloody, gamy, deeply hewn character to this wine on the nose, with a flood of ripe, chocolaty berry fruit and a lovely lift of freshly-cracked pepper. On the palate it is sumptuous stuff, with those deep plum and red berry fruit notes wrapped in vanilla and chocolate, and spiced with cinnamon and pepper. Long and luxurious with its unfurling tannins, this is hedonistic, delicious stuff but not without backbone and staying power.

A dense, dark and powerful wine, full of red fruits and a slight edge of fresh herbs; good length and intensity of fruit.
