The 2006 Léoville Las Cases is muscular and uncompromising, unwinding to reveal aromas of dark berries, cassis, burning embers, espresso roast, exotic spices, loamy soil and toasty oak. Full-bodied, rich and extracted, it's a deep, brooding wine with considerable depth and concentration, framed by an abundance of sweet, powdery tannin. It possesses considerable potential, but it continues to require patience.

The outstanding 2006 vintage produced wines of classical structure and precision, particularly on Bordeaux's Left Bank where Cabernet Sauvignon excelled. The deep gravel soils of Saint Julien delivered fruit of superb concentration and freshness, while meticulous vineyard selection and traditional élevage have created a wine that is now beginning to reveal the complexity and refinement for which the estate is renowned.

Deep garnet with youthful ruby highlights, the bouquet unfolds with aromas of cassis, blackcurrant and black cherry layered with cedar, cigar box and graphite. As the wine opens, notes of tobacco leaf, pencil shavings, truffle and subtle spice emerge, adding remarkable depth and sophistication. The palate is powerful yet beautifully composed, with concentrated black fruits framed by finely woven tannins, vibrant acidity and a precise mineral core. There is a wonderful sense of poise throughout, leading to an exceptionally long finish marked by savoury complexity, cedar and classic Saint Julien finesse.

An outstanding partner for dry aged rib eye, roast lamb, venison loin, duck with wild mushrooms or mature Comté. Already immensely rewarding with careful decanting, this is a classically styled Bordeaux that will continue to evolve beautifully for many years.
