47% pinot noir, 33% chardonnay, 20% meunier; 23% red wine of pinot noir; the first vintage made in Moët’s new red winemaking facility; DIAM closure
Moët harvests red wine for its vintage rosé from its best estate pinot noir plots of low-yielding old vines, green harvested to reduce yields when necessary. Twice the necessary vineyard area is prepared, to permit choice of the grapes with the best phenolic maturity to provide structure. Red wine is macerated for 5–7 days to draw out ripe, soft character, without hard tannins.
With dusty, tilled earth and a dry phenolic palate of chewy tannin grip and subtle almondskin bitterness on release, it’s appreciated a year in bottle for its red apple and pear fruit, layers of spice, freshly baked gingernut biscuits and hint of roast tomato to emerge. A full crimson hue in a savoury and secondary style, it’s already at its peak, true to the early-developing nature of 2006. It upholds its persistence amidst soft phenolic presence and well-integrated dosage.
