Light to medium, bright yellow colour, with a slightly reductive note over slightly herbal, lemon and citrus aromas, which translate onto a very brisk, lively, crisp and intense palate. Very good, but it's a fuller, riper wine in Arras terms, and some may baulk at the matchstick note on the nose (Ed Carr prefers 'gunflint'). Very rich, with superb flavour and complexity. A very good but not great Grand Vintage. (7 years on lees. Dosage 6 grams/litre. 65% chardonnay, 35% pinot noir, 10% oak fermented)03 NOV 2017
95 points Huon Hooke The Real Review
2008 Arras Grand Vintage, Tasmania, better than many Champagnes that cost more. Beautiful full bodied peach, apple and rich pear flavours are complemented by a soft lemon lime acidity. Incredible length and just keeps evolving in the glass. Really shines with food. Tasmanian salmon in miso would be amazing.
96 pts – Tyson Stelzer
Tasmania (Coal River Valley, Derwent Valley, Pipers River); Chardonnay 78%, Pinot 23%; aged on lees 8 years; 6.4 g/L dosage; disgorged May 2016
A history-making wine that will go down in Australian sparkling legend, this is officially the most awarded sparkling in the modern Australian wine show circuit. It impeccably and effortlessly captures the focus and precision of Tasmanian chardonnay (more than three-quarters) and pinot noir in crunchy lemon and apple fruit, backing it with enticing layers of brioche, almond and nougat, thanks to 8 years on lees. Thrilling acidity of grand energy is what really sets this cuvée apart, driving a very long and impeccably focused finish, irresistible now, yet possessing enduring longevity. I recently served this cuvée for a corporate audience and it won the vote of the room over Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve, one of my favourite champagnes.
