The first substantial and reassuringly great Belair-Monange in many decades, the 2008 represents the epitome of elegance and minerality. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet red and black fruits intermixed with notes of spring flowers and crushed rocks, a layered mouthfeel, superb nobility and remarkable intensity offered in a finesse-filled format. Kudos to Edmond and Christian Moueix for their resurrection of this iconic 6.2 acre vineyard.

Overlooking the limestone plateau of Saint Émilion, Château Bélair Monange is one of Bordeaux's most historic and revered estates. Its origins stretch back centuries, but a new chapter began in 2008 when the Moueix family acquired the property, restoring it to the front rank of the Right Bank. Named in honour of Christian Moueix's mother, Monange, the estate has become a benchmark for elegant, terroir driven Saint Émilion, where Merlot and Cabernet Franc reveal remarkable purity, finesse and longevity.

The 2008 vintage produced beautifully classical Bordeaux, favouring precision, freshness and structure over sheer power. The estate's prized limestone soils and meticulous vineyard management yielded fruit of exceptional definition, while careful élevage has allowed the wine to evolve gracefully into a beautifully balanced expression of this distinguished terroir.

Deep garnet with subtle brick highlights, the bouquet is wonderfully complex, revealing black cherry, plum and blackberry layered with violets, cedar and fine tobacco. As the wine opens, notes of truffle, forest floor, graphite and baking spice emerge, adding depth and unmistakable Saint Émilion character. The palate is refined and beautifully proportioned, with mature dark fruits, silky tannins and vibrant freshness flowing across a finely etched mineral backbone. Long, harmonious and effortlessly elegant, the finish lingers with savoury spice, earthy nuance and floral perfume.
