The Brut Vintage 2008 from Champagne Pol Roger is made from the traditional house vintage blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from 20 Grands and Premiers crus vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs.

Addressing Odette Pol Roger in 1908, Pol’s most famous customer, Winston Churchill, remarked that her family’s home in Epernay ‘was the most delightful address in the world’.

And indeed the House of Pol Roger has been making delightful wines ever since.

The latest creation of the house, the Pol Roger Brut 2008, is something truly special. It is believed that fruit for this wine was in every way equal in quality to such famed Pol Roger vintages as 2002 and 1996.

Laurent d’Harcourt, Pol Roger’s President, described the 2008 as having the weight and intensity of the highly praised 1998, with the brightness and freshness of the deliciously racy and long lived 1996.

"Brilliant light straw colour. Initially this has wonderfully vibrant and racy aromas of citrus and fresh spring flowers, evolving with hints of freshly buttered croissant. In the palate it is simply electrifying: there is a crescendo of flavours. The brioche and croissant notes on the nose carry on to a stunning brightness and vivacity in the palate, which has extraordinary intensity. The finish is one of lively, tingling freshness, with hints of citrus and lemon sherbet entwined with the yeasty autolytic characters that subtly underline this great wine. This has the potential to be talked about as one of the legendary vintages of Pol Roger. Quite simply a cracker; a truly great wine. Drink 2018 – 2040" David Roberts MW

‘I have always loved Pol for its luminous, polished flavours and mouthfeel. Add the glorious ’08 vintage, its usual blend of 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay seems reversed. It’s full of beautifully balanced stone fruit and citrus, achieved with a modest 7g/l of dosage after seven years on lees.’

60% pinot, 40% chardonnay; from 20 grand and premier crus in the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Bancs; Full malolactic fermentation; 7g/L dosage
Pol Roger’s Vintage cuvées have long been highlights among the cuvée I most often recommend to friends, and I have many vintages from the past 25 years tucked into my cellar. I have long awaited the dawning of the release of the sensational 2006, a season I adore more than any other in recent history for its poise and energy.
Pol Roger has done a fiendishly tactical thing, and while recipe for this cuvée is always 60/40  pinot/chardonnay, it appears to have deployed pinot noir of particular presence and depth to rise to the tension of chardonnay in this electric season. The result is quite something to behold, with a profound core of the most sublime black cherries and black plums, intricately refined with exacting Pol Roger precision, energised by the lovely acid line of 2008 and stirred vigorously by the brilliant chalk mineral structure of magnificently placed crus.
In the slow-motion evolution of Pol Roger, age has brought just subtle nuances of biscuits and spice. It will age confidently, but it’s irresistible from the outset. Do not miss this vintage, It’s a revelation.

A lovely wine in classic Pol style: refined, delicate, restrained, youthful and chard-ish. Wonderful delicacy and line - very fresh and alive with crisp, energising acidity.
