About 5% of Roederer's estate fruit is devoted to this cuvee; 66% Cumieres Pinot Noir, 34% Cumieres (Vallee de la Marne) Chardonnay; picked and pressed together; half fermented in tanks and half in oak barrels; aged on lees prior to bottling for 8-9 months; no malolactic fermentation; low pressure of 4.5 atmosphere to heighten creaminess; zero dosage;

Roederer's first new cuvee since 1974 was concieved in the estate;s remarkable 10-hectare biodynamic vineyard in Cumieres.The terroir had to be the key', Lecaillon told me as we stood in the heart of the vineyard. 'This was the secret to making this wine. I didnt set out to make a zero-dosage wine. I just found that the terroir didnt need it. The paradox of this cuvee is that markering is about Philippe StarcK, but cuvee is all about the terroir'.After the inaugural 2006 release heralded a remarkably well balanced wine thanks to its warm and ripe season, Lecaillon has tactically waited until the sunny 2009 vintage to repeat the same act.

There is generosity here of yellow summer fruits, pear andfn apple, pulling into a tensely honed tail that highlights briliant, glistening minerality eveen from Cumieres dark clay soils, impeccably framed by tught yet delightfully ripe and pure malic acidity. Here is evidence that the masterful harmony achieved with malic acidity without dosage in the first release was no fluke and kudos to Leciallon for pulling off the same tactical act again.

Lingering complexity of brioche and roast almonds coast trough a long and honed finish that flitters with spice. A unique and crafted cuvee that will benefit from at least five yerars to fully come together. It's again definitely roederr and characteristically Cunieres.

I dont mind the uncharacteristic informality of its love-or-hate label, but i wish it declared its cumieres origins and the remarkable story of the nost incredible biodynamic vineyard in all of Champagne. That's what this cuvee is all about.
