Syrupy and luscious with dark, coffeed flavour saturating its heart. It's a big, sweet wine but in many ways it shows how such a style can and should be done. Licorice and jellied blackberry flood the palate and extend out through the finish. It's sweet and full but it's not hot or dead; it maintains a keen liveliness. Oak plays a leading role but fresh, dark fruit stands right up to it.

Very deep, youthful, bright red/purple colour. The bouquet red and blue fruits galore, spices and star anise, licorice, sarsparilla, and kola root, delicious array of flavours, the palate full-bodied but nothing like the tannic blockbusters of yore. A very stylish wine. Delicious and a real departure from the oak-driven and heavily tannic wines of the past.25 MAY 2016 Drink 2016–2041
