2012 Best's 13 Acres Cabernet Sauvignon, Great Western

Step inside the gates of Best’s and encounter the 13 Acre vineyard, which consists mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It produces tiny amounts of intensely flavoured fruit when the conditions are right.

In November 2006 the vineyard was hit with a severe frost when the temperature plummeted to -7C. The good news? Since then, these resilient vines have recovered, producing the 2012, 2013 and 2016 13 Acre Cabernet Sauvignon. 

This wine is a great expression of the success Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys in Great Western. Rich food loves this youthful wine right now, but it will gain complexity over the next 10-15 years. Drink it with roast beef, a touch of horseradish, steamed baby carrots and Yorkshire pudding. 

The 13 Acres block is a distinct part of the Concongella Vineyard.  Extended maceration in open fermenters has resulted in a rich varietal wine that is a true advocate of the quality Great Western Cabernet can achieve.
