Smidge Wines is the private label of one of Australia’s most exciting wine making talents, Matt Wenk. While he is best known for his role as Chief Winemaker at the highly acclaimed Two Hands stable, Smidge Wines continue to show Matt’s talent.
Smidge, we try to find the very finest parcels fruit and transform them into small volume, world class wines that show exceptional varietal and regional definition. At days end, our goal is to give those who really appreciate wine something that is singularly enjoyable, truly special and uniquely memorable.
The wine has a black core with a deep red rim. There are elegant aromas of red/black fruits and spicy, earthy notes with hints of grilled meats, graphite and controlled oak. On the palate the fruit continues with rich plums and blueberries with delicate spice and chocolate which all roll onto a juicy palate with fine tannins that go on and on..
A best barrels blend, most sourced from a south-facing slope in Greenock; a barrel classification tasting in Nov chose the barrels to be blended, then returned to used French oak for 20 months. There is an elegance to the wine that partially stems from 13% Eden Valley fruit, liquid poetry in the balance of this wine.
