Castellare di Castellina does not follow fashion. While many Chianti wineries have lost touch with their Tuscan roots and experimented with blending French varieties and local grapes over the past few decades, the wine made at Castellare keeps a strong commitment to the traditional Tuscan variety of Sangioveto, the original local name for Sangiovese.
Aromas and flavours of cherries, plums, spices, tobacco and licorice. On the palate, it shows both firm structure and refreshing acidity, making it a very versatile food wine. The finish is energetic and minerally.
A fabulous wine in its class, the 2013 Chianti Classico shows just how promising the vintage is. Freshly cut flowers, bright red-fleshed fruit and tobacco notes are pushed forward. The 2013 offers superb delineation, compelling perfume and lovely silkiness, especially at this level. What a gorgeous wine this is.
