Fine-grained Pinot Noir, with appealingly pure red cherry, mineral, fresh tobacco and spicy oak flavours. Soft-textured wine, with fine tannins that drive a moderately lengthy finish. 19 MAY 2015
Mata-Au (the Maori name for the Clutha River) is a blend of fruit from Chard Farm’s four estate vineyards. New oak has been reduced to just 20% to boost flavour purity. Elegant Pinot Noir with appealing purity and subtle power. Red and black cherry with a suggestion of spice supported by nutty oak. Good length of flavour. Linear, accessible wine.
2013 Chard Farm Mata-Au Pinot Noir, Central Otago, supple black cherry flavours, with hints of pudding spice and charry smoky oak. Clean acid backbone will give it a nice chance to age and add onto more of the layers that are coming through. Will make a good match for chinese duck pancakes.
