The 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape (55% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre and the rest other permitted varieties) is a charming, mid-weight effort that has lots of black cherry, peppery herbs, truffle and forest floor characteristics on the nose. Medium-bodied, balanced and seamless, it grows on you with time in the glass, and while it might lack some oomph, it has wonderful purity and elegance.
