Very light yellow hue, with a sweetly honey-like, malty, beeswaxy aroma, suggesting barrel fermentation and perhaps a touch of botrytis on the grapes. There's quite a lot of sweetness: it's at least Kabinett level sugar and it counters the phenolics, which all confirms the grapes were quite late-picked and oak-fermented. There's also a hint of gas-pipe reduction, which adds to the complexity. The finish is firm with acid and phenolics. It's very good, but falls into 'no man's land' sweetness-wise. It's not easy to know what to eat with this style. An impressive and original style of riesling.09 SEP 2015 Drink 2015–2025
