The Poggio San Polo 2013 Brunello di Montalcino offers bright and sweet cherry fruit that pops out with pretty intensity as soon as you lift the glass to your nose. This wine offers beautiful fruit definition and a snappy personality that sings loud and clear. So many Brunellos can taste flat and evolved, but this wine is jazzy and very lively instead. The wine is fermented in cement vats and later aged in large oak casks and tonneaux for two years. Drink 2019-2030.

Deep red. Woodsy nuances of underbrush and potpourri complicate aromas of cherry kirsch and licorice. Then youthfully chewy in the mouth, featuring red cherry and licorice flavors similar to the aromas. Finishes with lively acidity and repeating licorice notes on the long back end, which also delivers some alcohol-derived heat.

Aromas of plum, dried meat, flower and figs. Full body, velvety and chewy tannins. So much fruit and intensity. I love the generous fruit and form to this wine. Drink in 2021.

Appellation: Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. Sangiovese Grosso 100%

Intense ruby red in colour with garnet hues, clear and glossy. The bouquet exhibits typical aromas of violets and small red berries. Subtle nuances of forest undergrowth, aromatic wood, a touch of vanilla and jammy mixed fruit then give way to subtle hints of coffee. This Brunello is intense, persistent, broad and heady. Full-bodied and warm on the palate, with a densely-woven texture and robust body, it has a persistent finish with wellrounded tannins.

The particular features of the terroir at San Polo produce a Brunello with a capacity for lengthy ageing, while patient cellaring enhances the wine during ageing in the bottle.Elegance and harmonious personality of this wine enables it to pair extremely well with highly-structured cuisine such as red meats and game, as well as with mushrooms and truffles. It is ideal with matured cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Tuscan pecorino.
