2014 Ashbrook Shiraz, Margaret River

Grown entirely on a “lyre” trellis system so as to eliminate green characters and highlight the attractive fruit flavours of this variety Ashbrook produces Shiraz wines of a silky, rich texture and medium to full bodied style, enhanced by 24 months in French oak and 18 months of bottle maturation.

Very deep colour, excellent, while it smells of chocolate, vanilla and plum. The wine is quite oaky all-round. It's full-bodied and firm, but the tannins taste oaky on the after-palate. Bitterness lingers on the finish. Elevated alcohol seems a part of the bitterness effect. Cellaring may help. 02 APR 2018
