From various low-yielding vineyards, part from the estate Watunga Road Vineyard in the northern Barossa Valley, 10 days in static overhead fermenters with pumpovers, matured in used hogsheads and some new barriques for 15 months. This has the best of both worlds, richly evocative of Barossa Valley style established over many generations, yet elegant and supple. The colour is bright and fresh, the bouquet fragrant, the medium-bodied palate with satsuma plum and dark berry fruits, the oak/tannin balance right on the money. Has smoothly side-stepped the bullet of toughness that marred many otherwise high quality shirazs from the vintage.
