2014 Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir, Waipara a big style pinot noir with loads of power and grace. Spiced richly scented plums and red berries that give a nice sweet lift. Beautiful tannin structure suggestive of a long life. Quite Burgundian in style. Might be one of the best value Pinot Noirs.
Ivan Donaldson planted the first Canterbury vineyard in 1976 and went on to establish Pegasus Bay in 1986 with his wife Christine. Today, Pegasus bay is a true family business with all four of their sons and two spouses involved, managing its various aspects.
Made by employing traditional Burgundian winemaking methods the 2014 Pegasus Bay Pinot has an intense purple appearance. It offers aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, black cherry, purple plum, chocolate and spice. Layered beneath this are hints of barbequed meats, grilled mushrooms and black olive tapenade. On the palate the wine is richly textured and mouth filling with powerful, but fine grained tannins that give a silky finish with exceptional length. It will age at least 7 years.

Wow! Fabulous, complex bouquet of broody dark red berries, layers of mineral and savoury whole-bunch and dried herb nuances. Juicy, lush, generous and complex on the palate, with generous oak and ripe, very fine tannins.
Bob Campbell MW The Real Review
Rich, weighty, ripe pinot noir with a dense, almost syrupy texture and plum jam, liquorice, Christmas cake flavours. Big and slightly rustic wine with pleasing complexity. It has a suggestion of old vine density with underlying power and a lengthy finish. Taste 2/9/2017
