Beautiful violet-like florals, leaves and a stony, savory edge set the stage for ripe plums and blueberries. The palate’s very supple, slightly plump and quite vibrant. Flavors of blueberries and ripe cherries hold neat and long. Drink now.
92 points James Suckling
The Côtes de Bordeaux has quietly become one of France's finest sources of outstanding value, producing wines that capture the character of Bordeaux without the price tag of the region's famous classified growths. Château du Vallier is a wonderful example, combining traditional winemaking with carefully managed vineyards to create a generous, approachable red that reflects the charm and authenticity of its appellation.
The excellent 2015 vintage delivered beautifully ripe fruit, with warm, dry conditions producing wines of richness, balance and impressive concentration. Grown on clay and limestone soils, the Merlot led blend develops generous dark fruit flavours while retaining freshness and structure. Careful oak maturation adds subtle complexity, allowing the fruit to remain the focal point.
Deep ruby garnet in colour, the bouquet reveals aromas of ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry layered with cedar, sweet spice and dried herbs. As the wine opens, hints of tobacco leaf, cocoa and earthy nuances emerge, adding warmth and complexity. The palate is smooth and generously flavoured, combining ripe dark fruits with supple tannins and balanced acidity. A gentle savoury thread carries through to a long, satisfying finish marked by spice, dark berries and polished texture.
A superb partner for roast lamb, beef casserole, grilled sausages, mushroom pappardelle or a mature cheddar. Drinking beautifully now, this generous Bordeaux offers remarkable value and classic regional character.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2030.
