This is the 21st vintage of Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, for whom a personal cuvée of the best champagne was created, the details of the wine still secret. Widely believed to be over 60% pinot noir, the balance chardonnay, all grand crus. Its full bodied generosity flows through the very long palate and finish.
Very complex nose with a wide spectrum of candied citrus, dried peach and mirabelle tart aromas. Bold and rich, particularly on the mid-palate, but with a great deal of subtlety and delicacy for the vintage. This is already delicious, but at the finish you really taste how this has been made for the long term. Great drive and persistence right at the end. Drink or hold.

A strong effort in a less-acclaimed vintage, Pol Roger's newly released 2015 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill opens in the glass with aromas of confit citrus, ripe orchard fruits and dried white flowers mingled with hints of honeycomb, freshly baked bread and anise. Medium to full-bodied, vinous and concentrated, with bright acids, chalky structuring extract and a pinpoint mousse, this inherently rather rich, gastronomic Champagne is quite tightly wound out of the gates and will reward a bit of bottle age. Stylistically, it is somewhat reminiscent of a modern-day version of the 1985.

The 2015 Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is a magnificent Champagne that embodies power, precision, and timeless elegance. Created as a tribute to Pol Roger’s most famous admirer, it captures the house’s traditional richness and refined style, showing exceptional structure and depth. Only produced in the finest vintages, the 2015 release is a blend dominated by Pinot Noir with a touch of Chardonnay, all sourced from Grand Cru vineyards that Sir Winston himself favoured.
Following a cool and balanced growing season, the fruit was hand harvested at perfect ripeness, pressed in small batches, and fermented in stainless steel to retain purity. The wine spent more than eight years ageing in the Pol Roger cellars beneath Épernay before release, allowing the slow development of texture and complexity that defines this cuvée.
In the glass it shines pale gold with fine, persistent bubbles. The aroma is deeply layered, offering notes of brioche, toasted almond, and citrus peel alongside pear, honey, and a hint of smoke. The palate is rich yet poised, with flavours of baked apple, lemon curd, and hazelnut carried by chalky minerality and firm acidity. It is full bodied and structured, with the graceful power and longevity that make this Champagne a collector’s favourite.
Perfect with lobster, truffle risotto, roast chicken, or simply savoured on its own, it will continue to evolve beautifully over two decades, gaining notes of toast, spice, and honeyed depth.
