Made with an Italian clone that was planted back in 1991 at their estate in Agrelo, this is always among Argentina’s best Cabernet Francs. Supple, scented and caressing, with rich, smooth green pepper and red berry fruit, top notes of cut grass and graphite and aromatic oak
95 points Tim Atkin MW The 2019 Argentina Report
Beautifully fragrant blue fruit with a fresh, leafy and herbal thread, as well as fresh earth and hints of chocolate. The palate has a very sleek and pure feel with long, freshly ground espresso-bean flavors, running through the rich dark plums and mulberries. Smooth, long and fresh finish. Drink or hold.

Pulenta Estate XI Gran Cabernet Franc is one of Argentina’s most refined and quietly serious Cabernet Francs, a wine that shows just how beautifully this variety can express the high altitude terroirs of Mendoza. The vineyards sit in the Uco Valley, where cool nights, intense sunlight and alluvial soils rich in stones and limestone give Cabernet Franc both aromatic lift and firm, elegant structure.
Pulenta Estate is run by the Pulenta family, whose roots in Argentine wine go back over a century. Their approach is focused on vineyard expression and long ageing, with XI Gran representing the pinnacle of their work, made only from the best parcels and only in exceptional vintages. This is a wine designed to show both power and finesse rather than simple ripeness.
In the glass, the wine shows dark cherry, blackberry and plum, lifted by violets, graphite, dried herbs and subtle spice. The palate is full bodied yet beautifully shaped, with fine grained tannins, bright acidity and a long, savoury finish. There is depth and intensity, but it is carried with elegance and freshness rather than weight.
This is a superb food wine. Roast lamb, grilled beef, duck, mushroom dishes or aged cheeses all highlight its complexity and structure.
Pulenta Estate XI Gran Cabernet Franc is approachable with air when young, but it is built for the long term. Expect it to evolve over fifteen to twenty five years, gaining more earthy, truffle and savoury complexity as it matures. It is a world class expression of Cabernet Franc from the Andes and a true collector’s wine.
