2016 Amisfield Pinot Noir, Central Otago

An abundance of fresh picked cherries on the nose along with hints of violets. 

Estate-grown at Pisa, in the Cromwell Basin, the 2016 vintage is from vines planted from 1999 to 2007 (9-17 years of age). Hand-picked (approximately 10% whole-bunch clusters were included in some of the ferments), fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 15 months in French oak barriques (20 per cent new), it is deep ruby and floral, with an abundance of fresh picked cherries on the nose along with hints of violets. This follows through to the palate combining spice from French oak and prolonged length with mouth-filling, sweet-fruited, generous, cherry, plummy flavours and fine-grained tannins. Savoury notes add to complexity, harmony and a rounded finish. It is already delicious but will keep 4-7 years
