2016 Best's Great Western Old Vine Pinot Meunier, Great Western

The Best’s Old Vine Pinot Meunier has a cult following, particularly in the wine community, where people understand the scarcity of this varietal planting. Best’s Old Vine Pinot Meunier is made only in the best vintages; in other years, the fruit goes into Best’s Concongella Collection Young Vine Pinot Meunier.

Medium to light ruby-red colour with strong purple tints. It's also fresh and bright to sniff, with quince jelly (oddly) as well as raspberry aromas, fruit-driven and youthfully straightforward. The palate is light to medium-bodied and has light but present tannins. It's youthfully undeveloped and straightforward and should be cellared to gain full rewards. (Vines planted 1868)
