This is another successful vintage from this estate. It is so finely structured that you notice the blackberry fruit more than the tannins, with a seam of crisp acidity throughout.

Plenty of menthol, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas in this elegant, medium-weight Haut-Médoc that’s got as much freshness as ripeness and a long, clean, mineral and herbal finish. An incredibly food-flexible wine! Drink or hold.

Among the Médoc's most enduring success stories, Château Cantemerle has been producing exceptional Bordeaux since the Middle Ages and proudly earned Fifth Growth status in the famous 1855 Classification. Set amid one of the region's most picturesque estates, Cantemerle has built a loyal following for wines that consistently overdeliver, combining classical Left Bank structure with elegance, freshness and remarkable value.
The superb 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of Bordeaux's modern classics, producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot of outstanding purity and balance. The estate's deep gravel soils encouraged slow, even ripening, resulting in beautifully concentrated fruit framed by fine tannins and vibrant acidity. Careful maturation in French oak has added complexity while preserving the wine's refined Médoc character.
Deep garnet with youthful ruby hues, the bouquet opens with aromas of cassis, blackberry and black cherry layered with cedar, graphite and cigar box. As the wine develops, notes of violets, tobacco leaf, pencil shavings and subtle spice emerge, bringing further complexity and classic Left Bank charm. The palate is beautifully poised, revealing concentrated black fruits, polished tannins and a finely etched mineral backbone balanced by lively freshness. Long, graceful and effortlessly harmonious, the finish lingers with savoury spice, cedar and refined elegance.
An outstanding companion for roast lamb, beef Wellington, venison, duck with wild mushrooms or mature hard cheeses. Drinking beautifully today with a generous decant, this classically styled Haut Médoc has the pedigree and balance to continue evolving for many years.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2042.
