Bursts of tangy little currants, a cedar wood fire sends out smoke plumes of cassis scented tobacco into a damp forest, leading you to a polished, fresh, bright, crisp and crunchy blast of red berries. The finish offers length and lift in a classic style. From a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon , 37% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc , the wine reached 13% alcohol.

94-95 points James Suckling

Few families are as closely linked to Bordeaux as the Bartons, whose stewardship of Château Langoa Barton has spanned more than two centuries. One of the Médoc's most respected Third Growths, the estate has earned an enviable reputation for producing classically styled Saint Julien that rewards patience, balancing power, restraint and remarkable longevity.

The vineyards lie on the deep gravel soils of Saint Julien, where Cabernet Sauvignon thrives alongside Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Widely regarded as one of Bordeaux's finest modern vintages, 2016 produced wines of exceptional precision, freshness and structure, allowing Langoa Barton to deliver a beautifully balanced expression of its distinguished terroir.

The colour is a deep garnet with youthful ruby highlights. Aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and cedar are complemented by graphite, cigar box, violets and subtle spice. The palate is refined and beautifully composed, carrying concentrated dark fruits through finely polished tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of tobacco, crushed stone and liquorice build towards a long, effortless finish that reflects the pedigree and timeless style of this celebrated estate.

A magnificent companion to roast lamb, dry aged rib eye, venison loin or beef Wellington with black truffle. While already captivating with a generous decant, this outstanding Saint Julien has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully through the 2050s.
