2016 was yet another exceptional vintage for the Cullen’s Mangan Vineyard.
A warm ripening period resulted in superb fruit. Good rains enhanced the growing season with no rainfall at all during the harvest period. As a result the wines are elegant, perfumed and defined by great purity.
57% Sauvignon Blanc, 38% Semillon and 5% Verdelho make up the 2016 Mangan white blend. Twelve percent of the juice was barrel fermented in French oak (45% new).
Complex aromas of tropical notes, freshly cut grass and lemon citrus dominate the bouquet. The palate has plenty of drive and displays intense notes of limes, lemon and gooseberry. The oak treatment playing second role here. Mangan SBS will be enjoyed now and for up to 10 years with seafood.
As ever, fresh, lively and highly expressive, fruit doing all the talking; all sorts of citrus on the bouquet and palate, with lemongrass, gooseberry and precisely judged acidity.’ Drink by 2021; 13% alcohol.
