An abundace of bursting blackcurrants, boysenberries and mulberries glide between sweet and toasted spices of black cardamom, cinnamon quill and nutmeg. Offset are perfumed notes of violets, anise, dark chocolate, camphor and Sichuan peppercorns. The palate is finely poised, yet with a generous mid palate weight. Vibrant and opulent black and blue fruits mesh with dried cranberries, caramel and cocoa notes. The tannins are tactile and structural providing direction and length.
Best Wine 2016 Art Series Shiraz
Ray Jodan's top 100 Reds under $40
After tasting 600 wines for Ray Jordans's Top 100 Reds under $40, 2016 Leeuwiin Estate Art Series Is recognised as 'The Best Wine'
Ray notes: 'The competition for the best wine in the tasting was hot. As hot as any previous year...But in the end I decoded on the remarkable Leeuwin Art Series Shiraz. This is the culmination of Leeuwinn's focus on its reds.
And in many ways it is a breaktrhough in style, delivering its payload with such a deft touch...
This is clearly one of the finest shiraz from Leeuwin, displaying complexity at another level.'
Interesting combination of predominantly shiraz plus five per cent malbec and a dollop of viognier. Aromas are quite beautiful, with cherry scents and a touch of floral apricot pith. One of the finest shiraz from Leeuwin, displaying complexity at another level. A hint of cracked pepper and licorice adds to the complexity. Outstanding.
