"Printhie can fairly claim to be the premier winery of the Orange region"
5 Stars - James Halliday
The farming property "Printhie" has existed for well over 100 years. The name Printhie is taken from a now extinct goanna-like lizard that was quite common in the local area.
In 1978, the Swift family became only the third owners of Printhie. Until the mid-1990s farm activity was dominated by cropping and grazing. Jim and Ruth Swift, the second generation of Swifts to manage "Printhie", diversified farm operations by planting the first 12 hectares of grapes on a gentle north facing slope. With the return of the third generation of Swifts, Ed and Dave, to Printhie in the early-2000s, further vineyards were planted, the Printhie wine brand was established and a winery was built on the property for the 2004 vintage.
