The Rusden Vineyard is nestled on the deep Vine Vale sand in the foothills below the eastern Barossa Ranges. The early pioneers carved this area out of cypress, blue gum and wattle woodland, once know as Bethany Sandscrub. The old vines are traditionally cared for and hand tended to ensure their longevity and benefit for future generations. A minimalist approach to winemaking results in an honest representation of the variety. This is a New World wine made in an Old World style to produce a fruit driven wine with dimension, character and balance.
2016 Back Guts has a powerful nose and palate reflect the nature of the vintage. Definitely in the dark fruit spectrum, with hints of violet, spice, cherry cola and coffee bean. Long dry finish with muscular tannins that frame the powerful fruit perfectly.
An outstanding wine of power and grace, concentration yet finesse. Powerful perfume of dark berry, maraschino cherry, cedar and spice. Fleshy texture, supple and sweet fruited, cherry cola and cherry elixir with chocolate tannins, iced coffee finish and a swish of puckering chew. Such impact here, and memorable. 14.9%.
