This famous, limestone-rich, Barbaresco Cru runs along the southern belt of the appellation, near the town itself. The Rocca cellars are located just above this southeast-facing vineyard—one of the reasons the site has become synonymous with the name Albino Rocca. Ronchi is also the oldest and largest holding of the Estate, extending to almost six hectares (three of Nebbiolo)—roughly a third of the total area of the Cru.

With Rocca’s Nebbiolo vines now aged between 50 and 70 years, this is a vineyard that offers an ideal combination of vine age, deep clay and limestone soils, and south-east exposure. This 2017 shows its class from the get-go. It’s remarkably accessible now for a Ronchi, but that’s simply because the balance is so good. Expect layers of fine and sweet yet savoury fruit hinting at rose, strawberry, pine and anise, all leading to a crystalline, chalky and driven close. Stunning.
Rose, iris, menthol and mature berry are just some of the aromas you'll find on this stunning, full-bodied wine. On the polished, savory palate, notes of star anise and tobacco accent a core of ripe Marasca cherry while fine-grained tannins offer structure and elegance.”

The 2017 Barbaresco Ronchi is terrific. Dark, ample and resonant, the Ronchi envelops all the senses from the very first taste. Succulent red cherry, plum, rose petal, spice, mint and licorice all build as the Ronchi shows off its considerable allure. Readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine from the Rocca family.”

Bright cherry, strawberry and floral aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this elegant red, which is firm and vibrant, with refined tannins lending support. There is excellent harmony here, and the aftertaste lingers with a mineral element.
