This is very tight and focused with a precise depth of blackberry and blueberry fruit. Full body, melted tannins and a fresh and vivid finish. Shows a compacted style.

The 2017 Branaire-Ducru offers lovely depth and density. The characteristic dark red/purplish fruit character of Brainaire comes through beautifully. As always, Branaire is a wine of polish and finesse. Stylistically, the 2017 comes across as a smaller scaled and more accessible version of the 2015. If that sounds appealing, well, it is. The 2017 is really quite lovely. Tasted three times.

2017 Branaine Ducro is produced from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 6.5% Petit Verdot and 4.5% Cabernet Franc.
History of Chateau Branaire Ducru goes way back to 1680, when it was part of huge baycheville estate. With serious debts the estate had to be broken down and Braniare Ducru was one of the few new estates that were created in 1680.
The grand chateau that is still in use today was built in 1824. Fast tracking to modern times, Branaire Ducru was purchased in 1988 by Patrick Maroyeaux, who at the time had no wine experience. Patrick did serve as the President of Union of Grand Crus Bordeaux qnd the Saint Julien appelation.

The Branaire Ducru vineyard is planted to 65% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The average vine age is abour 35 years of age with some of the oldest vines dating back 90 years. The wine of Chateau Branaire Ducru is aged between 16-20 months in French oak barrels (60-65% new).

The best vintages of Chateau Branaire Ducru are: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2000, 1989, 1982 and 1961.
