The wine was made from a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, reaching 14.2% alcohol.

Extremely perfumed with blackcurrants, flowers, gunmetal, gunpowder and blackberries. Full-bodied, tight and reserved. The tannins are so tightly knit and just run through the center. Needs at least three or four years to open. A blend of 77% merlot and 23% cabernet franc. Better after 2023.

A rich, explosive wine, the 2017 Canon exudes class from the very first taste. Huge aromatics resonate through to the palate, where the wine is deep, fleshy and beautifully layered. Effortless and gracious, Canon is a wine of real pedigree. I don't think the 2017 will reach the dizzying heights of the 2015 or 2016, but it will be interesting to see how close it gets.

Perched atop Saint Émilion's famed limestone plateau, Château Canon is one of Bordeaux's most distinguished estates. First established in the 18th century and now owned by the Wertheimer family of Chanel, Canon has become a benchmark for refined Right Bank Bordeaux, producing wines of extraordinary purity, elegance and longevity. Its unique terroir and meticulous vineyard management have firmly established the estate among the elite of Saint Émilion.

The 2017 vintage rewarded the estate's exceptional vineyard holdings and careful attention to detail, producing a wine of remarkable freshness, precision and harmony. The limestone plateau provided superb natural balance, while meticulous selection and patient élevage have shaped a wine that beautifully captures the grace and mineral character for which Château Canon is renowned.

Deep garnet with youthful ruby highlights, the bouquet is wonderfully expressive, revealing black cherry, plum and blackberry intertwined with violets, graphite and fine cedar. As the wine evolves, notes of truffle, tobacco leaf and crushed stone emerge, adding complexity and unmistakable Saint Émilion character. The palate is seamless and beautifully refined, combining concentrated dark fruits with cashmere fine tannins, vibrant freshness and an elegant limestone backbone. The finish is long, poised and effortlessly graceful, lingering with floral perfume, savoury spice and remarkable precision.

A magnificent partner for roast duck, beef Wellington, herb crusted lamb, wild mushroom pappardelle or mature Comté. Already captivating with extended decanting, this exceptional Saint Émilion has the pedigree and balance to reward collectors for decades.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2050.
