Chateau Fombrauge is one of the oldest estates in St Emilion. It dates back to 1679, although vines were cultivated as far back as 1599.
Today, Chateau Fombrauge is possibly the largest vineyard in St. Emilion. It was purchased in 1999 by Bernard Megrez, who owns properties in the Left Bank as well as in Passec Loegnan (Chateau Pape Clement) and Sauternes.
The massive, 60 hectare Right Bank vineyard of Chateau Fombrauge is planted to 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec.
The vinification is done in a mixture of wood, concrete and stainless steeel vats. The wine is aged 16-18 months in 50% new French oak barrels.Chateau Fombrauge is best to be drunk when 4-6 years old and over 20 years fron vintage.
Drink it withveal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes. Chateau Fombrauge is also good when matched with Asian dishes, rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms and pasta.

89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon
A tight and elegant red with very fine tannins, a medium body and a fresh finish. Shows tension and freshness. Solid for the region.
