Packed with tannins as well as delicious black-currant fruits, this is a dense wine. Dark tannins are an important part of the wine's potential, underlining the structure while supporting the ripe fruits. Drink from 2023.

Attractive aromas of briary red and blue berries here, as well as gently herbal and minty elements. The palate has a succulent, plush and supple feel with good concentration of flavor and depth. I like this. Drink or hold. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot

92 points James Suckling

One of Pessac Léognan's most respected classified estates, Château Latour Martillac takes its name from the distinctive tower that stands proudly among its vineyards, a landmark that has watched over the property for centuries. Family owned by the Kressmann family since 1930, the estate has built a reputation for producing refined, Cabernet Sauvignon led wines that capture the smoky elegance and mineral precision of this historic appellation.

The 2017 vintage rewarded careful vineyard management, delivering fruit of impressive purity, freshness and balance. The estate's deep gravel soils produced beautifully expressive Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, while thoughtful élevage has shaped a wine of structure, harmony and classic Left Bank finesse.

Deep garnet with youthful ruby highlights, the bouquet opens with aromas of cassis, blackberry and black cherry layered with cedar, graphite and subtle smoky notes. As the wine evolves, hints of tobacco leaf, violets and fine spice emerge, adding complexity and unmistakable Pessac Léognan character. The palate is beautifully proportioned, combining concentrated black fruits with polished tannins, vibrant acidity and a finely defined mineral backbone. Long, elegant and effortlessly balanced, the finish lingers with savoury spice, cedar and gentle smoky nuances.

A superb companion for roast lamb, Chateaubriand, duck with mushrooms, venison or mature Comté. Drinking beautifully with a generous decant, this refined Bordeaux will continue to reward careful cellaring over the next decade.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2042.
