Barossa Semillon is such a particular taste. An oddity that must be achingly hard to sell – even harder than Hunter Semillon – despite the quality and old vines.
Handpicked from ancient vines, the fruit basket pressed and spends 7 months in barrel with lees stirring. Lanolin and lemon, the barrel influence not easy picked and it’s developing more like unoaked Sem with whafts of hay. Has a real citrussy tang with so much lemony acidity.
I’d like a relook in 5 years at this – it’s got the legs to mature beautifully, even if it’s a bit gangly now. Definitely not a Hunter Sem, but varietal and unquestionably intense. Best drinking: From two years to forever. Seriously twenty years.
