The vineyard name, Les Longeroies, probably comes from the French verb longer which means ‘to border’. This makes sense as Longeroies is on the boundary between Marsannay and the next village of Chenôve. It is a star climat of the AOC and has been earmarked for promotion to 1er Cru (when Marsannay finally gets some), a logic echoed by Jasper Morris MW in his excellent tome Inside Burgundy. Longeroies faces south, and the two Mortet parcels sit mid-slope. One is 50 years old, and the other was planted with Pinot Fin clones in 1992

The aging consists of 18 months in oak casks (only 20% new) and the balance in one- and two-year-old wood. Marsannay is one of the last great value appellations of the Côte and this is genuinely one of its finest examples. The 2017 is fleshy and seductive and already good drinking. Give it a few years more and you’ll be very happy you did.
This is attractively fresh and bright with its broader range of aromatic components that include red currant, cherry, spice and soft floral wisps. There is notably better volume and density to the equally delicious medium weight flavors that conclude in a refreshing and naturally sweet finish. This is almost gulpable today yet it has the underlying material and structure to reward 4 to 6 years of cellaring.
