From vines planted in the 1970’s and 1980’s produced partially from the domaine’s grapes (Chenevery) and partially from purchased grapes (Chenevery, Crais Gillon, Chorvées Gillon). The soils are deeper and composed of clay. They create complete, well-structured wines, which are smooth on the palate with notes of violets and blackcurrants.
The Lignier family owns a mere tenth of a hectare in the Mazoyeres-Haut climat of this Gevrey-Chambertin grand cru. From their old vines (planted in 1948), they render a wine of immense power and concentration, yet always with a sense of underlying refinement.
The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru includes 20% whole bunches, matured in one-third new oak. It has a gorgeous bouquet of cranberry and raspberry fruit with veins of cassis; later, brown spices emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, good depth and fine grip, perhaps just missing a little precision toward the finish but still very fine. Drink 2023-2038
