Cask sample. Black cherry, thick and full on the palate, in a much more satisfying way than their village Vosne. Lovely beetroot note adding earthy interest to finish. Succulent, complete, ageworthy.

2017 Domaine Jacques Cacheux Vosne Romanée Les Ormes is a beautifully nuanced and quietly seductive expression of one of the Côte de Nuits’ most hallowed villages, coming from a lieu dit that sits on the northern edge of Vosne Romanée close to the border with Nuits Saint Georges. Les Ormes takes its name from the elm trees that once lined this area, and its soils of limestone mixed with clay give wines that lean more toward finesse and perfume than sheer muscle. While not a Premier Cru, Les Ormes has long been recognised by insiders as one of the most elegant and reliable sites for village level Vosne, capable of producing wines with real depth, aromatic complexity and aging potential.
Domaine Jacques Cacheux is a small, family run estate with deep roots in Vosne Romanée, quietly respected for its traditional approach and faithful expression of terroir. Jacques Cacheux built the domaine’s reputation through meticulous vineyard work, old vine holdings and restrained winemaking that favours balance over extraction. Today the domaine continues in the same spirit, working largely by hand in the vineyard, harvesting at moderate ripeness and using oak carefully so that it supports rather than masks the delicate character of Vosne Romanée. The 2017 vintage was warm and early, producing wines of charm and purity, and at Cacheux it translated into a wine that is immediately expressive yet beautifully composed.
In the glass the wine shows a luminous ruby colour with bright clarity. Aromas unfold gently, revealing wild strawberry, red cherry, raspberry and rose petal, layered with subtle spice, forest floor and a faint hint of sandalwood that is classic Vosne. The palate is silky and finely textured, delivering red berry fruit, gentle savoury notes and fine grained tannins that give length and elegance without weight. There is a quiet persistence to the finish, driven by freshness and limestone minerality rather than power. It is a natural match for roast duck, veal, mushroom dishes and delicate game, and it will age gracefully for ten to fifteen years, developing more truffle, dried flower and spice complexity as it matures.
2017 Domaine Jacques Cacheux Vosne Romanée Les Ormes is a refined and authentic Vosne Romanée, offering the village’s trademark perfume and sensual texture in a style that rewards patience and attention rather than loudness.
