2017 Howard Park Riesling, Mount Barker, Great Southern

From one of our favourite "desert island" wineries. The Howard Park Mt Barker riesling is the perfect example of Mount Barker riesling. All  lemon/lime slice like aroma, flow to the palate. Hints of soft spice, wet stone and a clean acid backbone. Will age beautifully or drink now. Serve with school prawns and tarragon lemon mayo.

From its beginnings, Howard Park has made Riesling from the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia. Riesling is demanding, sensitive yet tough enough to thrive in the vagaries of this cool climate. 

The 2017 Howard Park Mount Barker Riesling is displaying heady notes of lime skin, fresh citrus and star anise on the bouquet. The palate’s s lively citrus and green pear is enriched with lemon curd, baked apple and quince. A soft wet stone feel, adds texture to the palate and the balanced acidity, a guiding line. This wine has distinct fruit, floral and spice notes, generosity, length of flavour and fine balance. 12% alcohol.

A line of great rieslings have appeared over the decades under the Howard Park label; here a flowery, scented bouquet leads into a complex palate with Granny Smith, Meyer lemon and a subtext of limey acidity produce yet another classy riesling, with more yet to come.
