Agricola San Felice lies in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, at an altitude of about 400 metres, in the southern portion of the Chianti Classico district. It encompasses some 650 hectares, of which 140 are in high-quality vineyards, and boasts about 17,000 olive trees. The secret of its terroir consists in the perfect combination of local climate and soils —in their case with abundant rock— and favourable temperature variations between day and night, that create conditions that ensure the production of wines that are truly incomparable.
San Felice invested in Montalcino back in the early 1980s, acquiring the idyllic Campogiovanni property on the southwest slope of the hill on which Montalcino lies, the location subject to the positive effects of mild breezes from off the Mediterranean. Today 14 hectares are officially registered for Brunello di Montalcino production and the remaining 6 for Rosso di Montalcino. In addition the estate boasts more than 2,000 olive trees. Wines are made by oenologist Leonardo Bellaccini.
The area of Montalcino is the most arid of all the Tuscan DOCG zones, so the wines tend to be intensely flavoured and well-balanced. Campogiovanni is the name of this particular site. Total ageing necessary for a Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is 48 months, with a minimum period of two years in oak and four months in bottle.
