Albert Shiraz is named after Kym Teusner’s Grandfather, Albert Alfred Teusner…a man admired for his commitment and his persistence. Like previous vintages, Albert Shiraz is made from parcels of fruit sourced from a couple of the favourite vineyards….an old block at Ebenezer in the Barossa’s North and another at the Barossa’s South Eastern most extremity at Williamstown.
2017 vintage saw wonderful rainfall through the growing season setting the vines up for the warm and dry ripening period. This produced good yields of well balanced fruit. In general, the wines from 2017 are fine and elegant with that typical underlying Barossa richness and sense of power.
The old vineyards of the Barossa tend to yield fruit with elevated concentration of flavour and soft, supple and velvety tannins that set them apart from the younger stuff. The Ebenezer vineyard gives this wine it’s lifted perfume and complexity whilst the Williamstown block provides darkness and muscle.
The wine shows a complex aromatic of dark fruits, hints of menthol spice and prcessed meats. A palate packed with blackberry, black
satsuma plum, black cherry and cassis with great intensity and length.
