A blend of shiraz and cabernet from the Hunter Valley, with the shiraz sourced from premium vineyards on the Tyrrell’s property and Moon Mountain vineyard and the cabernet coming from Pokolbin. All of the components were fermented and matured separately until blending. After blending the wine was put back into French oak barriques, 30% of which were new, until bottling. The wine was predominately matured in smaller 225L barriques. As always with Vat 8, we see much darker fruits and some chocolate characters in the wine, along with the extra element of spice from the higher percentage of new oak.

95 points - If you put this in the cellar the chances of you being disappointed when it reaches maturity are almost zilch. It has character and balance and, from such an excellent year, has enough fruit to keep the engine humming along, long time. A beautiful medium-weight, filigreed wine. Drink by 2035.

95 points - This has a composed, compact and soulful mid-weight style to it, plenty of black fruits and dark stony aromas, dried woody spices too. The palate has a dark essence-like spiced plum and dark cherry core, tannins roll smooth, even and purposeful, smoothly groomed, holds freshness and delivers incredible depth of flavour. Long and strong. Drink now and for 10+ years.
