The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is blended with 50% whole cluster and 30% new oak. It has quite a dense, powerful bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit mixed with loamy, peaty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, conveying more energy than the Charmes-Chambertin and good grip on the finish. Excellent.

Still a very fresh purple with a bouquet that is almost as fine as the first wine. In fact, it is the purer of the two. A superb and refined sensuality. It is difficult to smile so broadly with a mouthful of wine. Significant risk of spillage. I love this but I think there is even more finesse in the first Chambertin (which was from Rossignol-Trapet). Raw fruit still, a wine which is capable of developing significantly further. Drink from 2033. Tasted Sep 2022.

A subtle application of wood surrounds the well-layered nose of red and dark currant, spiced plum, freshly turned earth and a discreet whiff of smoked game. The intense and racy larger-scaled and stony flavors possess first-rate punch and power while delivering fine length on the somewhat curiously sweet and mildly warm finish.

From one of Burgundy’s most revered Grand Cru sites, this Chambertin reflects the power, depth and haunting perfume that have made Gevrey Chambertin legendary. Camille Giroud is a historic négociant and domaine with deep roots in the Côte de Nuits, known for traditional élevage, long ageing and a focus on wines built for longevity and complexity. Chambertin sits on prized limestone and marl slopes, producing Pinot Noir of great structure, intensity and aristocratic balance. The approach here is classical, allowing the vineyard’s natural authority to shine rather than chasing overt ripeness or extraction.
The colour is a deep ruby garnet with impressive density. Aromas are layered and compelling, showing black cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, followed by rose petal, Asian spice, forest floor and a subtle iron like mineral note. The palate is powerful yet refined, with concentrated red and dark fruit framed by fine, persistent tannins and a vibrant acid line that gives remarkable length. There is a deep savoury core and silky texture that build through the finish, marking this as a true Grand Cru built for long ageing. Superb with roast duck, beef bourguignon, venison, truffle dishes and aged Comté. While stunning with extended decanting, it is designed to cellar for twenty to thirty years, evolving toward truffle, leather and sous bois complexity.
